Ariana Grande was scheduled to attend the 2018 Emmys, but the ex-girlfriend of Mac Miller was still reeling from the recent death of the Pittsburgh rapper. Pete Davidson was also expected to attend the 70th annual Emmy Awards but he stayed in New York City to comfort his pop singer fiance.
Fellow Saturday Night Live castmates Colin Jost and Michael Che hosted the Emmys on Monday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. SNL was nominated for 21 awards, but Davidson missed the award show to be with Grande, who is still devastated over the death of Mac Miller.

“Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight,” her rep said in a statement on Monday. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.” Grande decided to take the time off to “heal and mend” following Miller’s death according to her rep.

“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” the statement said. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.” The Emmys would have been Grande’s first public appearance since Mac’s death on September 7th of an alleged drug overdose.
Mac Miller, real name Malcolm James McCormick, dated Grande for two years. Last week, Grande posted two tributes on Instagram to her former love.

“I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will,” Grande wrote in a tender message. “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore.”

In other Mac Miller news, the “Self Care” rapper was left out of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards “in memoriam” tribute. The clip which honors TV stars who have passed away in the past year did not include Mac. Miller starred on MTV’s Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family in 2013 and 2014. The in memoriam segment did honor others who were not actors such as Aretha Franklin, John McCain, and Hugh Hefner.
Mac Miller fans were angry that the “Swimming” rapper was not featured in the tribute.
Did they really just skip Mac miller and not give him a tribute? Yes he was a singer and not an actor but they did a tribute to Aretha Franklin and McCain who was just a politician so…what’s up? #Emmys

Honestly it’s shady they didn’t put Mac Miller in the In Memoriam part of the Emmys like he had his own show smh

I think it’s weird and sad that they didn’t mention #macmiller in that memorium . He was a singer and a performer, and definitely should’ve been included. #emmys
