Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as a “reset”” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.

According to Kevin Feige, who has been in charge of Marvel Studios since 2007, whereas 2019’s Avengers: Endgame was an ending, 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as a new beginning.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are set to feature a bevy of actors from the Fox X-Men universe, such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer.

Kevin Feige says Avengers: Secret Wars will lead to major MCU recastings

“We’re utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we’ve been telling post-Endgame, just as importantly — and you can look at the at the Secret Wars comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future. Endgame, literally, was about endings. Secret Wars is about is about beginnings,” Feige told the media last Friday.

The longtime MCU boss indicated that after Avengers: Secret Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce a new, younger crop of X-Men.

“Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines…. X-Men is where that will happen next.”

During his comments, Feige specifically name-checked the introduction of David Corenswet as Superman and Amazon MGM Studios looking to cast a new James Bond.

“Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond. David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case…. I think it’s hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role. How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?”

While Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday may currently be in production, recent worrying reports indicated that the script for Doomsday has no third act and writers are being brought on to work on it.

The next scheduled film in the MCU is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is being directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton and is currently dated to release on July 31, 2026.
