While Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie One Battle After Another is being universally revered across the board, one aspect of the film that has received particular attention is that of Benicio del Toro’s Sensei Sergio — one of the only calm characters in the increasingly frantic film.
One Battle After Another star Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to, one again, be nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards, while Sean Penn is also now considered to be a contender for Best Supporting Actor.
del Toro’s performance as the zen, “Latino Harriet Tubman,” however, might prove to be the most everlasting part of the film, as it’s not only an instantly iconic turn, but it includes a line that may achieve the immortality of being turned into a meme, and that line is simply, “A few small beers.”

Upon the release of One Battle After Another the internet community unanimously agreed that it was an all-time line-reading from del Toro that will instantly be turned into a long-running meme.
“After only one viewing, can already tell there are lines in One Battle After Another that will become part of our lexicon forever: ‘I’ve had a few small beers,'” one tweet summarized.
I hate to meme a line reading on opening weekend but “a few small beers” is that good. His eyes, so believably distant and intoxicated, with just a glimmer of calculation and control. He’s being a little stinker and loving it. Smartest guy in the movie.

If Leo wins an Oscar for One Battle After Another, it’ll be his second, as is the case for del Toro. If Penn wins one, it’ll be his his third.
