Actress Lori Loughlin, better known as Aunt Becky, was one of 50 people involved in a bribery scandal that set up an elaborate network to get unqualified students into universities they apparently had no business attending based on merit alone. The internet reacted with a flood of Aunt Becky memes because the internet could not resist dunking on a celebrity from their childhood.
On Tuesday, the 54-year-old Full House star and fellow actress Felicity Huffman were allegedly involved in the college bribery scandal. The bribed SAT and ACT exam administrators, college athletic coaches and administrators so that their children could get accepted into universities. The indictment alleged that Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli paid $500,000 to get their two daughters into University of Southern California.
They made payments to Rick Singer’s Key Worldwide Foundation, which was said to be a “non-profit college counseling service.” But in actuality, the foundation was a way to launder money and facilitate bribes to college coaches and administrators.
Loughlin was busted in the investigation, appropriately named Operation Varsity Blues. Loughlin’s daughters got into USC by pretending to be crew competitors and were accepted to the university by being put on the school’s rowing team, even though they never competed in crew.
