The first episode of any television series is arguably the most important one, and if you’re looking for a long-term relationship with a viewer in an increasingly crowded media landscape, you’ve got to figure out a way to set yourself apart from the pack.
Every once in a while, I’ll stumble across a pilot that gets me instantly hooked on a show and I can’t remember the last time something grabbed my attention more than the premiere episode of “Black Mirror”— you know, the pig one.
It was a bold move by creator Charlie Brooker, who could have opted to open things up with any of the other equally mind-twisting installments featured in the first season of the anthology series that first aired back in 2011.
Since then, we’ve been treated to four seasons of Black Mirror in addition to an impressively ambitious movie in the form of Bandersnatch, which was released in lieu of what many believed would be a new run of shows when rumors about the choose-your-own-adventure addition to the franchise started to swirl.
Bandersnatch certainly managed to tide me over but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t have preferred a heftier firmware update, and while it may have taken a while, the kind folks at Netflix have decided to bless us with some new episodes as announced in a trailer they dropped on an unsuspecting world on Tuesday.
According to Variety, the abbreviated season—which will hit Netflix on June 5th—will feature three episodes and a cast boasting the likes of Anthony Mackie, Topher Grace, and Miley Cyrus because why the hell not?
My body is ready but I don’t know if my mind will ever be.
