In 1988, Bruce Willis kicked off his Hollywood career with a bang by portraying John McClane in Die Hard, which was his first leading role in a major motion picture and one that set the tone for the path he’d rarely stray away from in the decades that followed.
Willis might not be the most versatile actor out there, but his decision to portray stoic tough guys with a penchant for the occasional wisecrack seemed to work out pretty well for him; it might not have resulted in him cleaning up during award season, but it was certainly more than enough to pay the bills.
However, it’s hard not to wonder what kind of bills he’s managed to rack up over the past couple of years when you take a look at his recent string of projects, which seem to be the end result of the actor taking a page out of Nicolas Cage’s script selection book.

Willis starred in eight movies that were released over the course of 2021—seven of which suffered the direct-to-video fate. Midnight in the Switchgrass was the lone exception, but all of the films were united by a couple of central themes: they were all Certified Rotten and targeted almost exclusively at dads who are physically unable to resist the urge to watch a new Bruce Willis movie when it pops up on a device they refer to as “The Roku.”
Now, Willis is being, um, honored for that dubious streak at the 42nd Golden Raspberry Awards (more commonly known as “The Razzies”) which included all eight of those titles in a new category—”Worst Bruce Willis Performance in a 2021 Movie”—that was unveiled alongside the other nominations that were released on Sunday.
Here’s to hoping he follows in Halle Berry’s footsteps when the big night rolls around.
