Most people go to Chili’s for the drinks, the fajitas, and those warm, thin, salty salsa chips that somehow never run out. But now, according to one TikTok creator, that might be changing.
A Georgia woman shared what happened when she sat down for dinner and noticed something was off. Now, TikTok users are begging Chili’s not to mess with a classic.
‘Hold Up. These Are Not the Chips.’
TikTok creator Court (@courtclem17) posted a video explaining what went down. Her clip, which has over 2.7 million views, walks viewers through the possible change that could be happening.
“Guys, this is not a drill,” she begins. “Chili’s is discontinuing their perfect, crispy, thin, delicious chips.”
She says she went to Chili’s for dinner, ordered chips and salsa with a side of ranch, and knew something was wrong after the first bite. “I said, hold up. These are not the chips,” she recalls. These are like thick Mexican restaurant chips.”
When she asked to speak with a manager, they hit her with some disappointing news.
“The manager then said that they are discontinuing the chips that go with the salsa,” she says. “They’re getting thicker chips… because those work better with the nachos that are on the menu.”
Court didn’t hold back. “What the f—-?” she exclaims. “Chili’s… absolutely not.”
Is This Really Happening?
Court isn’t the only one noticing something strange. Other TikTok users have posted their own videos pointing out the change.
One wrote, “Tell me I’m trippin… these are not the same.” Another posted a separate video filming the chips, writing on-screen, “When you go to Chili’s often enough to know they switched their chips.”
However, the official Chili’s Facebook page shut down the speculation. “Chili’s chips and salsa are not going anywhere,” the page wrote in a post titled “BREAKING NEWS.” In the caption, the brand doubled down: “Our chips aren’t changing.”
But some customers weren’t convinced. One person commented, “In Muskogee the chips already changed. Chips thicker and don’t taste the same.”
Chili’s replied, saying, “Our thicker chips are meant for our nachos, our chips and salsa won’t be changing. We are actively working on coaching our Team and will look into this further!”
It’s possible the confusion comes down to stores using the wrong chip in the wrong context or possibly phasing out stock before a switch. Either way, people noticed.
Commenters Don’t Want It To Be True Either
Under Court’s video, users flooded the comments with passionate opinions.
“I’ll never eat there again if they change the chips bc that’s the best part.”
“I HOPE THEY KNOW THAT THAT’S THE WHOLE REASON PEOPLE GO TO CHILIS.”
@courtclem17 @Chili’s Grill & Bar PLZ PLZ tell me this isn’t true….. #chilisbarandgrill #chilisrestaurant #chilis #chilischipsandsalsa
“They took the original crispers. They took the corn on the cob. Now the chips? Unacceptable.”
Another user pointed out, “They are removing the skillet queso (no loss), but I will never step foot in Chili’s if they replace the chips. This. Means. War.”
