Jaws. Dumb and Dumber. Speed. The Matrix. Basic Instinct. Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. I could sit here all day typing out sequels to great movies that missed the mark. Deadpool hopes to avoid that trap after it’s original earned more than $750 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. And most of all, it was compelling, funny, and different.
While Deadpool 2 hits theaters May 18, the movie was screened Thursday for some journalists in Los Angeles. The verdict: overwhelming praise. Full-scale reviews are embargoed until next week, but critics are giving us something to chew on.
I didn't absolutely love the first Deadpool, but man, Deadpool 2 does the trick for me. Hilarious when it needs to be, surprisingly touching when it needs be (not in that way, gross), and is kinda the best X-Men-universe flick in forever. Also: DOMINO RULEZ. pic.twitter.com/vEZsgzFo4W

Liked DEADPOOL 2 way more than the first. Smarter, funnier, and with 100% more Ricky Baker.

I didn't like the first Deadpool. DEADPOOL 2 beat me into submission until I was actually enjoying myself. Also it features my now favorite post credit scene.

I'm still legit shocked that I enjoyed this movie.

Just saw #Deadpool2. Safe to say it features the best post credits scene EVER. I’m still recovering.

And of course, there were its detractors. (Even YouTube videos of homeless puppies being groomed back to health and given a loving home have at least a few ‘thumbs downs.’)
DEADPOOL 2: A 113-minute Honest Trailer that steals its best scene from MACGRUBER. Josh Brolin's third-best summer movie. Criminal misuse of Julian Dennison. Your ten-year-old son's new favourite movie. It will make $1-billion.

Is there any more convincing indicator that the movie is awesome than ‘I wasn’t that into the first one, but the sequel got me good’? Plus, even if the movie sucks, it sounds like it’s worth the price of admission solely off the reviews from the post-credit scene.
I’m going to call my weed guy today. Will for sure see this opening night.
