When you order food from a delivery app, you’re trusting that no one is going to mess with it. And there are a whole lot of people involved in the process. There’s the cook that prepares your order and the worker tasked with packing it up. And then there’s the driver bringing it to your home. Chances are high that, if you’ve used a food delivery app like DoorDash or Uber Eats, you have at least one horror story.
Drivers can leave rude messages on your food, or you can get something unexpected with your order. Hopefully, no matter what comes with your dish, you actually get all of the food you ordered. However, as a recent viral video from TikTok user Joe Bryon (@bryoncleanupcrew) shows, that isn’t always the case.
What Did This Delivery Driver Do?
In a video with over 325,000 views, Bryon shows a man standing at the pickup counter of a McDonald’s, which Bryon states is in New York City.
After a few seconds, the man can be seen working to open the side of the bag and, eventually, dipping his hand in to take some of the food.
“When your DoorDash driver thinks the tip includes a taste test,” reads the text overlaying the video. “Caught in 4K. Be careful.”
Eventually, Bryon confronts the driver, saying, “That’s your food?” The driver states that it is, though his insistence on resealing the tamper-proof bag raised the TikToker’s suspicions.
“Nahh Bro, thought he was slick taking a little bite like we not watching acting like it’s his order,” Bryon writes in the caption. “This NYC WE SEE EVERYTHING.”
How Often Do Food Delivery Drivers Eat Customers’ Food?
While Bryon identifies the driver as working for DoorDash, there’s no indication in the video that that’s the case.
That said, no matter what company the man was working for, stories about drivers eating customer food abound on the internet, with some engaging in the practice more brazenly than others.
If you suspect that a driver has eaten your food, well, they very well may have. One 2019 study found that, of 500 food delivery drivers polled, 28% admitted to snacking on customers’ food. So if your fry order looked a little light, that might be because part of it is sitting in your driver’s belly!
For customers concerned that their driver ate their food or who have received orders that have obviously been tampered with, they can reach out to their respective food delivery app in order to resolve the issue.

Commenters Aren’t Happy
In the comments section, some users suspected that the food may have really belonged to the person picking it up.
“It could have been his food. They tape it up even for pickup orders,” reads one comment.
“In his defense, when I order food from the app at Wendy’s, McDonalds, Jersey Mikes etc, they always package it like it’s for DoorDash,” echoed another. “Even when I ordered Panda Express through the mobile app, they said ‘DoorDash? Here’s your order.’ So, we’re not sure he’s a food delivery driver yeah?”
That said, most of the other commenters weren’t buying it.
“Exactly why I have never ordered food and never will,” declared a user.
“I’m a door dasher and I would NEVER use these delivery apps….. I caught another driver doing the same thing but he waited until he got in his car,” offered a second.
“That is why I go pick my stuff up,” stated a further TikToker.
