We like to believe that the United States is #1 in everything, but there’s some bad news. The USA is not #1 when it comes to being the drunkest country in the world. That honor goes to Britain.
A new study examined the drinking habits of 120,000 people across 36 countries. The Global Drug Survey found that the U.K. is the drunkest country in the entire world. This will not surprise anyone who has visited London where the city has 2019 pubs per mile.
The report found that Britons get drunk more than anybody else. British people get plastered 51.1 times a year or nearly once a week. The United States learned well from the British because Americans get intoxicated an average of 50.3 times a year.

Our Canadian neighbors to the north get drunk 47.9 times a year, followed by 47.4 times a year for Australia and the citizens of Denmark enjoy 41.7 binge-drinking episodes annually. Ireland and India were tied with 41 drunken days per year. The Irish are not living up to their stereotype.
The most sober countries included in this survey were Chile (16.4), Portugal (20.2) and Germany (21.5). This doesn’t even make any sense for Germany, especially since Oktoberfest is 16 days long.

Another study of drinking habits from 2018, found a different story as far as which country drinks the most amount of beer. The Czech Republic destroyed every other country in beer consumption per capita by downing 404 bottles of beer per year. The next closest nation was Namibia with 304 bottles of beer a year per person.
When it came to drinking whiskey, South Korea dominated the rest of the world by chugging 43 bottles annually per citizen. Americans only drank 11. Be better USA.
