Do you remember where you were and what you were doing four years ago? That’s an entire high school/college experience period of time. That’s quite a long time. So long, in fact, that it was enough time for Edie Falco to just assume that Avatar: The Way of Water had already hit theaters and bombed.
During an appearance on The View, the beloved star of The Sopranos revealed that she filmed Avatar: The Way of Water so long ago (over four years ago, she says) that she actually thought the movie already hit theaters and “didn’t do very well.”
“I saw the first one when it was out,” Falco said. “The second Avatar I shot four years ago. I’ve been busy and doing stuff. Somebody mentioned Avatar and I thought, ‘Oh, I guess it came out and it didn’t do very well because I didn’t hear anything about it.’ It happens! Someone recently said, ‘Avatar is coming out,’ and I said, ‘Oh, it hasn’t come out yet?’ I will never work again because I said that.”

In addition to Falco (who is only in a scene or two), Avatar: The Way of Water also stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Sigourney Weaver, Edie Falco, Kate Winslet, Jemaine Clement, Michelle Yeoh, Brendan Cowell, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin, CJ Jones, and more.
At this time, Avatar 3 — which has largely already been filmed — is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024. While there are also plans for Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, the production of those films will depend on how The Way of Water performs at the box office. During its first weekend in theaters, The Way of Water made about $134 million at the domestic box office, which was below initial projections.
