Chris D’Elia Describes Going To Eminem’s Detroit Studio, Said Slim Imitated Comedian’s Impersonation Of Him

It has been 10 months since the beginning of the incredible story of Chris D’Elia’s now-famous impersonation of Eminem. The unlikely relationship reached new heights when Eminem asked the comedian to be in the music video for Logic’s Homicide. Now, D’Elia talks about actually meeting Slim Shady in his Detroit studio and how tremendous the experience was.

On January 30, D’Elia posted a video of himself in a garage working out rhymes as Eminem. The Instagram video went viral and had over a million views.

Days later, the video caught the eye of Eminem, who was so blown away by the near-perfect impression that he said: “This is INCREDIBLE!!! 4 a second I actually thought it WAS me!”

By May, Eminem said that he was going to have a rap battle against the comedian and D’Elia gladly accepted. D’Elia expected things to get messy.

That “rap battle” ended up to be Eminem and D’Elia both appearing in Logic’s Homicide music video, which also featured Chauncey Leopardi, who played Squints in the beloved baseball movie The Sandlot.

Now, D’Elia explains what it was like to meet Eminem for the first time at the rapper’s Detroit studio. In a recent episode of his Congratulations podcast, the comedian turned actor describes the very first thing Eminem said to him when they met the first time.

“Eminem stands up and goes like, ‘Flappin’ around like a bapkin,” which is D’Elia’s impersonation of Em. So Eminem did an impersonation of the person famous for doing impersonations of Eminem.

“I’m like, ‘K, this is the craziest f*cking thing already. He’s doing my impression to me of him,'” D’Elia said on his podcast. “He was like, ‘You killed that impression, man. It was so funny. And the one in the garage when you’re out of breath. Dude that’s hilarious because I get out of breath sometimes.'”

D’Elia ended up hanging out with Marshall Mathers for two hours.

“In the best way, he was just the most normal, cool guy,” D’Elia said of the celebrity encounter. “He was just a real mature, cool dude, talked a lot about hip-hop, talked a lot about who his favorite rappers were. We talked about comedy a lot. We talked about different comedians. We talked about my act, what I’m talking about. It was just a trip, man.”

Meeting Eminem stuck with D’Elia to the next day. “I don’t even know what to say dude. I kept thinking about it the next day,” the comedian said. “It was so f*cking weird, man. It was cool to meet him because I’ve listened to his music so f*cking much, man.”

Slim Shady said his favorite rappers are Tupac, Biggie, JAY-Z, “and all those guys.”

D’Elia added that Eminem just started rapping in the middle of a sentence.

“There was one part where he was talking about somebody who was talking sh*t about him. ‘You don’t even know what I’m doing when I’m rapping, I’m using syllables.’ And he started rapping while he was in the middle of talking to us,” D’Elia said. “It was unbelievable. It was insane. Imagine being on the same couch as Eminem, and he starts doing that.”
