The most popular Fantasy series in history, HBO’s Game of Thrones, has reached a conclusion after only six episodes in the 8th and final season. A few weeks ago fans spotted a ‘Starbucks Cup’ on the table at Winterfell that briefly dominated all of the Internet’s attention and it was estimated Starbucks received tens of millions of dollars in free advertising from that fiasco despite the fact that it eventually came out the cup was a teacup from the craft services on set.
Fans are pretty split on how they feel about this season. A lot of fans feel like six episodes wasn’t nearly enough time to wrap up this epic storyline. I feel like this is a legitimate argument from fans but at the same time people were going to hate the ending no matter what HBO did and I can’t imagine people would’ve been happier with three or four more episodes. If I’ve learned anything working on the Internet for most of my adult life it’s that people LOVE to complain about anything and everything.
After that ‘Starbucks Cup’ popped up in Winterfell and the Internet made countless jokes about it, I wrote in this article about my concerns going forward. I said “The ONLY thing that really bothers me about this is now eagle-eyed fans will be watching every episode trying to pick apart details to find the next Starbucks Cup even if it doesn’t exist.” and that’s exactly where we’re at today.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted the tiny edge of a water bottle in the Game of Thrones series finale and it blew up on Twitter. Honestly, it’s easy to see how the production team would’ve missed this because it’s barely visible. And it was probably hot as hell when they were filming in Croatia while wearing full leather suits with armor so I sympathize with the actors for staying hydrated.

Game of Thrones leaving a plastic water bottle sitting there in the finale is such perfect symbolism for a show that spent the last two seasons rushing to get done and ignoring the important little details that made it great in the first place. pic.twitter.com/P4VWTuGvBM

Sure, there’s a water bottle. But why aren’t more people asking the real question: is that Howland Reed, and if so, what the fuck? #GameofThrones pic.twitter.com/L3YxUh3PHy

Wait, what the fuck, was that Howland Reed and why did they completely skip over calling him out by name or ever developing his character whatsoever when he was supposed to be such an integral part of the end?!
Next Sunday, HBO will air ‘The Last Watch’ which will feature behind-the-scenes footage of the filming from the last season. Here’s the trailer for that:
My question now is how long will you wait before going back and re-watching the series if you haven’t done that recently? I know a lot of people re-watched all of the episodes before the final season but I imagine this show will go on to be one of the most binge-watched shows in history, especially after all of the people who didn’t watch Game of Thrones realize they can’t get attention anymore for telling people they didn’t watch the show.
