For a number of years, the “Gaylor” Subreddit has been one of the most active Taylor Swift subreddits across the entire platform.
The Subreddit is entirely based on the fan theory that Swift, the world’s biggest pop star, is either gay or, in some way or fashion a member of the queer community. The subreddit and associated theory are so popular that they even have their own Wikipedia entry!
Swift has repeatedly bristled at and shut down the theory, expressing frustration over the outside discussion surrounding her sex life on the whole. But the Subreddit and theory have persisted.
That is, until Tuesday afternoon, when Swift shockingly announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce.

The Subreddit has routinely linked Swift to romantic relationships with several of her close friends, including actresses Karlie Kloss and Dianna Agron.
Swift, of course, has also been extremely publicly supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. And while that obviously doesn’t make her a member of said community, it only added fuel to the fire.
However, news of her engagement to Kelce made its way over to the Subreddit shortly after it broke, and the reactions were not okay.
“My brain is fuzzy. Is this real? Is she ghosting him or the gaylors? Are we happy for her?” one person asked.
“Beginning to feel that TLOAS is going to be VERY explictly either queer and/or performance art coded, to the point where it needed a very big counterweight like this so the Image stays intact,” wrote another.
TLOAS, of course, refers to Swift’s upcoming album “The Life Of A Showgirl,” which she announced on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason.
Swift also noted on the podcast that some of her fans tend to take things way too far.
Some Taylor Swift Fans Still Aren’t Giving Up On The Gaylor Theory!
You would think that the Kelce’s engagement would shut down the theory completely. In fact, would you think that the theory would’ve ended, out of pure respect for her, when Swift herself rebuked it.
But that is not the case!
“At the end of the day none of us know how she really feels or identifies. But nothing, absolutely nothing, can ever convince me that Kaylor wasn’t real,” one poster stated.
And hey, a woman getting married to a man does not mean that said woman cannot be queer. After all, sexuality is very much not that black and white. But Swift has made her own personal feelings pretty clear. Still, that’s not stopping her fans!
One particularly unhinged post even speculated that Swift might be marrying Kelce because her father, Scott, recently had a health scare.
“Following the podcast news about Taylor’s father’s poor health I’m actually not surprised that the pathological people pleaser would do this,” the poster wrote.
Now, a lot of posts on the Gaylor subreddit are in good fun. But that type of post feels like reckless speculation that is actively harmful to the person. Anybody, regardless of their own personal sexual preferences, should respect the personal feelings of others enough not to question their validity.
But the post gives a look into just how insane one of the craziest Subreddits on the internet has become.
