Goose And Mt. Joy’s Cover Of ‘What’s Up?’ By The 4 Non Blondes Is Your ‘Earworm Of The Week’

Mt. Joy and Goose the Band got together to headline a concert this week at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin while the two bands are embarking on separate tours. The two bands each played their owns sets but then met on stage for a joint encore where Mt. Joy and Goose covered ‘What’s Up?’ by the 4 Non Blondes, a proper early 90s anthem.

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since I first heard this cover and it has already taking over my brain (and TikTok feed) like a virus. The song has always been catchy but these two bands, which have seen meteoric rise in popularity in recent years, breathe new life into the song.

Goose and Mt. Joy Cover ‘What’s Up?’ by 4 Non Blondes In Joint Encore

These two jam bands have been selling out arenas and amassing fans worldwide over the past few years and their stardom only continued to climb in Wisconsin. Of course, the diehard fans wanted to see them play their songs during the encore (and they did) but Goose and Mt. Joy collaborating on ‘What’s Up?’ was something special.

The ‘Earworm of the Week’ for me started about 24 hours ago when I came across Mt Joy’s TikTok. It shows the two bands backstage practicing together and strumming acoustic guitars to the 1993 anthem from the 4 Non Blondes.

That clip them jumps from backstage to the two bands on stage together performing the song in Wisconsin. I watched it twice. I was immediately hooked.

From there, I kept scrolling and then started seeing fan videos of the joint encore. Longer versions of the full song. Short clips. Before I knew it, this ‘What’s Up?’ cover by Mt. Joy and Goose was everywhere. It was playing in repeat inside my head and I was seeing it all over TikTok.

After last week when I shared Brandi Carlisle’s cover of ‘Uninvited’ by Alanis Morissette, I figured we could run it back this week with a new ‘Earworm of the Week’ and maybe make this a weekly feature around here.

Mt. Joy stays on tour through October then has a break until early February when they’ll tour New Zealand and Australia. Goose is on tour through through December. I’m going to try and catch them at Hulaween here in Florida next month, see you there?
