It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 10 years since the release of the most recent installment in the Grant Theft Auto video game franchise, and while there have been plenty of rumors concerning GTA VI, Rockstar Games has been fairly quiet about its plans. Thankfully, the company has revealed a trailer is coming in the very near future.
When you consider the fifth Grand Theft Auto game was the most profitable “entertainment product” of all time (with the help of the laughably milked cash cow that is GTA: Online), there were zero doubts the folks at Rockstar would try to top themselves while developing GTA VI.
The publisher has always been fairly secretive about what it has up its sleeve, but it’s pretty easy to understand why fans who’ve played its video games over the years have become increasingly restless thanks to the unprecedented gap between the previous installment and the new one (the approximately five-year wait between GTA IV and GTA V seems like a blink of an eye compared to this one).
Toward the beginning of 2022, Rockstar confirmed GTA VI was in development, and later that year, we got our first unofficial look at the title courtesy of a massive leak of gameplay footage that confirmed it will take place in Vice City (although the company has done what it can to scrub that evidence from the internet).
Now, we finally know when we will get our first official look at things, as Rockstar has announced it will be releasing what is easily the most anticipated trailer in video game history in “early December.”

It’s a virtual certainty that the trailer will include a release window (and possibly a specific date), but based on history, Rockstar’s fiscal projections, and rumors from trusted leakers, it seems like we can expect GTA VI to drop toward the end of the year in 2024.
Here’s to hoping it will be worth the wait.
