- No one who received it had any idea what it meant, leading to hundrds of hilarious questions and jokes on social media.

Thursday night between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. ET, HBO Max sent out a bizarre email with the subject line “Integration Test Email #1” leaving thousands of people confused.
In the body of the email was the sentence “This template is used by integration tests only.”

Naturally, anytime something like this happens on the internet (Covfefe, anyone?) the internet is quick to come together as people quickly jump on social media to ask questions and make jokes. (Mostly make jokes.) Thursday night was no exception as folks on the web had no shortage of possible explanations for and comments about HBO Max’s bizarre email communication.

“We mistakenly sent out an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list this evening,” HBO Max wrote on Twitter.” We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile in, yes, it was the intern. No, really. And we’re helping them through it.”
WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar then jokingly tweeted out a checklist of things HBO Max has now accomplished, as Warnermedia and Discovery get ready for their impending merger.

On the plus side of this email sent in error, besides all of the fantastic jokes it created (seriously, just go on Twitter right now and do a search for “Integration Test Email #1”), at least HBO Max’s email sent in error wasn’t a false missile alert.
