After choosing to begin the premiere episode with a cold open, House of the Dragon unveiled its official title sequence with the debut of the series’ second episode, and to the surprise of many fans, HBO has decided to keep the original, iconic Game of Thrones theme song.
Given how beloved the Game of Thrones theme song was when the landmark fantasy series originally aired on HBO from 2011 to 2019, fans of the franchise naturally lost their minds upon hearing the return of the beloved tune.

It’s certainly a bold choice from HBO and the House of the Dragon creative team, who clearly hasn’t been afraid to lean into their Game of Thrones roots in the first two episodes of the series, as evidenced by the use of the original theme song and a bevy of other references to the seminal series.

In hindsight the best thing about Game Of Thrones was easily the title sequence every week. Hey it's that song let's check out which parts of the sweet-ass mechanical boardgame we're going to visit this week

People complaining that House of The Dragon uses the same intro song as Game of Thrones is pretty wild to me: Star Wars sequels/prequels, The Hobbit, Fantastic Beasts all use the same intro songs as the original shows! WTH should House of The Dragon switch theirs??

The House of the Dragon intro is cool but the Game of Thrones theme song is famous forever

The first two episodes of House of the Dragon are currently streaming on HBO Max. The following eight episodes of Season One will air on Sunday nights until October 23. Just days before the second episode dropped, HBO officially announced that the series had (unsurprisingly) been renewed for a second season.
House of the Dragon is just one of many Game of Thrones spinoffs that will hit HBO or HBO Max in the coming years, as the famed channel reportedly has about seven to eight Thrones-related projects in the works.
