I haven’t seen Squid Game yet. It came out of nowhere, so I didn’t really have time to prepare for it before it was released, and by the time it became such a rapid and massive cultural phenomenon, I’d been so wrapped up with screeners and catching up on Succession that I just haven’t had the time. Once I finish up my Succession watch, though, Squid Game is next — I promise.
Still, despite having not seen the show, we had a chat about Squid Game on the most recent episode of our Post-Credit Podcast, discussing what Netflix can learn from the series’ unprecedented success if anything at all given its seeming randomness. And because I’m an entertainment writer, there’s nothing strange about me chiming in on the show even though I haven’t seen it. Jeff Bezos, on the other hand, has elicited a different response given the fact that he’s, in fact, Jeff Bezos.
On Saturday, the richest man in the world took to Twitter to give praise to Netflix for the Squid Game phenomenon, even though he admitted he hasn’t seen the series yet. Perhaps his tune will change when he realizes the entire series is a scathing criticism of the very economic system that is responsible for his endless wealth.
.@ReedHastings and Ted Sarandos and the team at @Netflix get it right so often. Their internationalization strategy isn’t easy, and they’re making it work. Impressive and inspiring. (And I can’t wait to watch the show.) https://t.co/yFw7TGyc1U

Naturally, those who have seen the series immediately became quite suspect after Bezos praised a series that features capitalism as its primary antagonist.

Bezos, man, go back to trying to have sex with Elon Musk on Mars or whatever it is you’re doing up there in space. Leave us regular folk and our streaming content alone, please.
Squid Game, which is on track to become Netflix’s biggest ever series, is now available to stream.
