John Cena, at age 41, is doing exactly what he did almost 20 years ago: paying his dues and slowly advancing up in segment of the entertainment industry. This time around, instead of pro wrestling, it’s the world of movies and television.
He is also following a similar path to another WWE superstar you may have heard of named Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Considering that they are two of the best to ever lace up their boots, or in Cena’s case, his tennis shoes, it’s not surprising that both men have become very much in demand outside of wrestling. Little did we know that they would end up working together outside of the squared circle though.
Which is exactly what is about to happen as The Rock announced on social media on Monday that his Seven Bucks Productions has chosen John Cena for the lead role in their upcoming action movie The Janson Directive.
“Found my star!” wrote Johnson on Instagram. “Congrats to my good bud John Cena on landing the lead role for our movie, THE JANSON DIRECTIVE. A project that myself, @sevenbucksprod, our production partners and Universal Studios have been developing for years now.
“Congrats man and I’m excited to go on this journey with you. Thank you for your commitment to the role and remember, as your producer if you screw up, I’m coming to set and droppin’ the People’s Elbow on ya. And you know first hand how devastating my elbow drops can be 😉💪🏾.
“Congrats my friend and let’s go make a good one.”
Cena also expressed his excitement on social media at the opportunity to work with Johnson on the film.

From making films like The Marine and Fred: The Movie to Ferdinand, Bumblebee: The Movie, Duke Nukem and now this, it sure looks like John Cena is following the same blueprint that The Rock did as he made his way to the top of the movie mountain.
