Johnny Depp is a weird dude. A great actor, mind you, but a very weird dude. He’s 56-years-old now if he lives another 20 to 30 years I could see him being one of those celebrities who keeps big glass jars of his own urine in his house.

He’s almost like the white Michael Jackson, only without, you know, all the pedophilia (allegedly!). As in, he has been so successful, made so much money, and been able to do literally whatever the hell he wants to do at any given moment for so long he seems to have most of his grasp on what the real world is actually like.

So for Depp to join social media now, in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, and with his legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard lasting longer than their actual marriage, not to mention the lawsuits with his former handlers, it’s pretty much perfect.

“Hello everyone… filming something for you now… gimme a minute,” Depp wrote in his very first social media post.

Then Depp posted the video.

“Hi. Everyone. Hello to everyone who might be out there in etherland receiving this transmission,” Depp begins. “This is my first experience within the world of social media. I’ve never done any of this before. I don’t think I’ve really ever felt any particular reason to until now.

“Now is the time to open up a dialogue, as the threat of this invisible enemy has already caused immeasurable tragedies and enormous damage to people’s lives. People are ill and without care. People are getting sick and fighting for breath. People are dying at frighteningly high rates. Many are unable to provide for their children and their families as a result of this hideous global pandemic … and I know for the moment it feels like both of our hands are tied behind our backs, and to some degree they are, but our minds are unbound and our hearts are not chained and we can care, and through caring we will help each other and we will prevail. Caring is as close as the eye can see, it’s right in front of you at all times if you just have a look.”

Depp also encouraged people to use their newfound free time to be creative, adding that when his children were growing up and they would say they were bored, he would reply, “You’re not allowed to be bored.”

“We need to make the best use of this time by being close to those we love despite our dire circumstances,” Depp added. “We cannot and must not succumb to shutting down and giving into what feels like hellish quarantine monotony. We have to keep ourselves curious as this time in isolation can be used for great learning.”

“Remember today is today and that’s that. There are going to be no refunds given tomorrow for having missed today. Today ain’t coming back,” said Depp.

Depp also posted a song he recorded last year with Jeff Beck called “Isolation.”

“Jeff Beck and I recorded this song Isolation last year, as our take on a beautiful John Lennon tune,” Depp wrote on the Hollywood Vampires’ Instagram account. “Lennon’s poetry – ‘We’re afraid of everyone. Afraid of the Sun!’ – seemed to Jeff and me especially profound right now, this song about isolation, fear, and existential risks to our world. So we wanted to give it to you, and hope it helps you make sense of the moment or just helps you pass the time as we endure isolation together.”
