Despite the fact that Netflix’s upcoming docuseries about Kanye West — cringeworthily titled “jeen-yuhs” — is just weeks away from premiering on Netflix and days away from premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, the mercurial rapper, perhaps unsurprisingly, is already complaining about it. Not only that, but Kanye struck a vaguely threatening tone as he claimed this will be the “last time” that he says this “kindly.”
In a recent Instagram post, West addressed Netflix directly, saying he “must get final edit and approval” of the documentary before it’s released.
“I’m going to say this kindly for the last time. I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix. Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image,” West posted on Instagram.
Given Kanye’s recent history, it should come as a surprise to absolutely no one that he’s making things more complicated right on the verge of the release of the series. The documentary has likely been in the works for months — if not years — and yet Kanye is voicing his concerns now, just days ahead of the project’s scheduled premiere at Sundance Film Festival on January 23. The Sundance Film Festival kicked off on Thursday, January 20, and is set to run through Sunday, January 30.
