Kentucky Man Known As ‘Cowboy Cody’ Charged With Releasing Raccoon Into A Bar After Getting Kicked Out

Most people who managed to get kicked out of a bar aren’t going to respond too positively to that development. That was definitely the case in an incident that unfolded in Kentucky that led to a man being arrested for allegedly releasing a raccoon into a drinking establishment that refused to serve him.

Bars are in the business of making money by selling as many drinks as possible. The nature of that business means they’re going to end up dealing with their fair share of obnoxious drunks, but most places are going to give customers plenty of leeway before asking them to leave.

Bartenders are legally obligated to refuse service to anyone who’s “visibly intoxicated,” but in my experience, most of them have a pretty liberal definition of the level you need to reach to hit that threshold in their eyes.

As a result, the majority of the people who end up getting 86ed for being too hammered have been firmly overserved, and anyone who’s had the pleasure of dealing with someone in that condition likely knows they A) usually insist they haven’t done anything wrong and B) are not particularly open to hearing arguments to the contrary.

That brings us to an incident that transpired at The Big Apple Grill and Bar in Murray, Kentucky last week that led to the arrest of  Jonathan Mason, a 40-year-old who is known by many locals as “Cowboy Cody” based on a report from Fox8.

It would appear Mason had a bit of history at that establishment when you consider he’d previously been banned from entering the premises, and it’s safe to assume that was why he was told to leave when he showed up on the evening of June 6th.

Things took an interesting turn when the Murray Police Department was dispatched to the bar around 9 P.M. after receiving a call from someone who claimed Mason had returned to the bar with the live raccoon he released inside before it bit a patron, and he was subsequently apprehended during a traffic stop.

He was ultimately charged with assault, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and failure to have proper insurance and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18th.
