This Video Of Marines Sprinting Towards A Burning Building To Evacuate Senior Citizens Will Make You Proud To Be An American

The prevailing impulse when one sees a building in flames is to run the other way, unless my JUUL is in there. In that case, I died for a worthy cause. Give my remaining cartridges to my loved ones.

Instead of running in the other direction, a group of Marines in Washington D.C. rushed toward an apartment complex for the elderly in Southeast D.C. when the fourth floor burst into flames Wednesday, assisting fire fighters in evacuating senior citizens and preventing any fatalities.

Here is a video of the Marines running from a barracks located just down the street, sans fire gear, to help those endangered by the two-alarm fire at the Arthur Capper Senior Public Housing building.

According to a statement from the Marines posted on Facebook:

“Marines rushed into the building to rescue those who needed assistance and evacuated residents to the Marine Barracks Washington Annex where they were checked and treated for any injuries and sheltered until their loved ones arrived.”

According to ABC News, D.C. Fire Chief Milton Douglas said there were four people transported to local hospitals and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser thanked those involved with braving the flames to prevent what could have been a catastrophic tragedy.
