New Yorkers look after their own. Born and raised Brooklynite Steve Buscemi gets it. The former FDNY firefighter returned to his former firehouse (Engine Co. 55) the day after 9/11 to volunteer even though his acting career was on the rise. Buscemi didn’t think twice about it, he showed up and worked 12-hour shifts digging through the rubble at Ground Zero looking for missing fellow firefighters.
New Yorkers are now IRATE and rallying around Steve Buscemi after the iconic director and actor was senselessly attacked on the street in Kips Bay in Manhattan last Wednesday, an incident that was confirmed by Buscemi’s publicist. A stranger approached him on the street and punched him in the face as Steve Buscemi was leaning against a wall and texting, completely unaware that he was about to take the hit.
His publicist confirmed to NBC News “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of NY.”
After the attack, he was taken to nearby Bellvue Hospital for treatment on his bloody, swollen, and bruised left eye. The NYPD released a CrimeStopper image of the alleged suspect and as soon as New Yorkers found out it was like Al Capone finding out Elliott Ness had stolen his bootlegged whiskey (aka, the mobster jokes were rampant).

The popular X account Wu Tang is for the Children said ‘Whoever punched Steve Buscemi needs to be found and thrown in prison for life.”
A deep cut here on Buscemi’s role in Billy Madison:

Rest assured, the suspect will be apprehended. An NYPD CrimeStoppers image of the alleged suspect can be seen here on Audacy. With several million New Yorkers on the lookout, it is only a matter of time before an arrest is made.
