Nicolas Cage In Talks To Star In ‘True Detective’ S5, Will Reportedly Be Set In Creepy Remote Part Of NYC

Academy Award winning actor Nicolas Cage is in talks to star in the fifth season of HBO’s crime anthology series True Detective, according to reports. Season five of True Detective will be set in the Jamaica Bay area of New York City.

True Detective first premiered in 2014 and is credited with ushering in the golden age of prestige television. The series has yet to recapture the magic of the the first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, though.

Actors such as Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Mahershala Ali, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn have also been featured in subsequent seasons.

HBO says, however, that 2024’s True Detective: Night Country — which featured Jodie Foster in the lead role — was the most-watched season of the series yet, with 12.7 million cross platform viewers.”

True Detective: Night Country head Issa López is returning as writer and showrunner under her overall deal with HBO.

Jamaica Bay certainly seems like a location primed for a season of True Detective, as it jets out into the Atlantic Ocean and is situated in the shadow of John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Landing True Detective would be another step in the late-career comeback that Cage has experienced in recent years, having starred in films such as Pig, Longlegs, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Dream Scenario, and Renfield.

The Oscar winner’s next major project will be starring in a John Madden biopic alongside fellow Academy Award winner Christian Bale as late Raiders owner Al Davi

Next year will see Cage starring in the first television series of his career as he’s reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir in a live action series on Prime Video.
