While the legendary Nic Cage has starred in virtually every type of movie there is, one genre that the 58-year-old Academy Award winner has yet to tackle is musicals.
Cage, however, would absolutely love to make one, as evidenced by a recent interview he did with Empire Magazine for their 50 Greatest Actors Issue.
“I haven’t done a musical yet,” Cage said. “I’d like to try that.”
“I’m not much of a singer. I did sing okay in Wild At Heart, I thought, but I’ve since blown my voice out singing ‘Purple Rain’ incorrectly in karaoke bar. I think I’d make a good Pontius Pilate in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’”
Following a 2022 that saw the Oscar winner truly return to Hollywood’s A-list — reports from a few months ago that he’s been able to raise his quote as a result of his newfound return to stardom — Cage will carry his hot streak in 2023, as he’ll be starring in Universal’s Dracula movie Renfield and a Western titled The Old Way. He’s also set to star in A24’s Dream Scenario alongside Michael Cera, Julianne Nicholson, and Tim Meadows.
Recently, Cage has starred in films such as The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Pig. Pig, in particular, is the film that helped return the actor to his previous status, as the film reminded everyone in the movie world what he’s always been capable of.
Renfield, which is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on April 14, is directed by The Lego Batman Movie and The Tomorrow War filmmaker Chris McKay and also stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular Renfield, Awkwafina, and Ben Schwartz.
