2018’s Den of Thieves raised the bar for cat and mouse heist flicks and then slammed it into a getaway van. Now, with Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (hitting theaters Friday, January 10), O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler—back as the human wrecking ball Big Nick—are cranking the intensity to 11. There’s more action, bigger personalities, and, importantly, a borderline spiritual devotion to fast cars and chase scenes.

It wasn’t just an interview. It was a bro-down.

The Fast and the Hilarious

We caught up with Jackson and Butler for a conversation that veered wildly between O’Shea’s inexplicable passion for Burger King’s Croissan’wich (priorities, man), their dream getaway rides, and some good old-fashioned track-day trash talk.

“Getaway cars?” O’Shea mused. “I think Gone in 60 Seconds. That Shelby Mustang—well, Eleanor, technically. It’s Nicolas Cage and Eleanor. Iconic.”

“I was going to say Shelby!” Gerard interjected, feigning exasperation. “You stole my Shelby!”

Unfazed, O’Shea powered on, correcting his co-star: “It’s ELENOR.” He continued. “Then there’s Brian’s Nissan Skyline GTR from Fast & Furious. That thing could get me out of anywhere.”

The conversation shifted to the Porsche Taycan, a $99,000 MSRP scene-stealer in Pantera and apparently in real life. Check out a preview of the scenes it’s featured in over on the Porsche YouTube Channel.

“That thing is a rocket ship, dude,” O’Shea said. “We got to test it the other day. Yesterday, I hit 110 on the launch before they yelled, ‘Brake, brake, brake!’”

Gerard smirked. “Yeah? I got to 111.”

Cue laughter and obligatory one-upmanship.

“I don’t actually know what I got to,” Gerard admitted with a grin. “But the instructor did say I was faster, cooler, sexier, more intelligent, and a nicer guy than O’Shea.”

O’Shea rolled his eyes.

What’s New in Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera?

So what separates Den of Thieves 2: Pantera from its testosterone-drenched predecessor? According to Jackson and Butler, it’s the buddy cop vibe that brings a fresh dynamic to the chaos.

“The first movie was oil and water—pure rivalry,” O’Shea explained. “Now, it’s like when your team steals their rival’s best player. There’s tension, but it makes for a killer team-up.”

Gerard agreed. “The first one was raw, oppressive testosterone. This one still has gangsters and danger—you don’t mess with that mafia—but it pulls back enough to let the characters bond. There’s more humor, more personality. It’s funnier, sharper, and just as intense.”

Buckle Up for Pantera

If the first Den of Thieves was a brawl in an empty Los Angeles parking lot, Pantera is a buddy cop cat and mouse game across Europe. With its mix of action, humor, and characters who feel like they could slug you or buy you a beer (or both), it’s the perfect reason to hit the theaters this January.

Oh, and for the record, Gerard probably hit 111. But don’t ask O’Shea about it.
