Drew Carey has encountered plenty of colorful characters during his time hosting The Price Is Right, and he recently called renewed attention to one man who was tripping on mushrooms and described himself as a “Skateboarding Rabbi” after earning a spot on the show.
It’s hard to believe Drew Carey has been serving as the host of The Price Is Right for close to 15 years since taking the reins from longtime and beloved host Bob Barker in 2007.
The daytime television staple is known for featuring plenty of contestants who have a hard time curbing their enthusiasm after getting called down to Contestants Row. It’s unclear if Carey has overseen an episode where the show had to execute the contingency plan it apparently has in place for people who pee their pants out of sheer excitement, although he was front and center when a guy dislocated his shoulder while celebrating.
As a general rule, you probably want to avoid being in an altered state of mind when you appear on a game show, but during a recent interview with TVInsider, Carey admitted plenty of people who’ve ended up appearing on The Price Is Right during his run on the program are drunk or high before calling out one particularly bold contestant:
“They’ll have a gummy or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual.
There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms. He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy. I found out later when I went to UCB to hang out and they were like, ‘Did you see that guy who claimed to be a skateboarding rabbi?; I asked him what he did for a living. And he goes, ‘I’m a skateboarding rabbi.’
He didn’t think he was going to get picked, and he totally tripped.”
The guy in question is Josh Androsky, an actor and comedian who is credited as a writer on multiple episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants. He uploaded a clip of his appearance to YouTube in 2012 and, well, it’s certainly not hard to believe he’d ingested some magic mushrooms before the show based on what unfolded.
What a legend.
