A woman is accusing Publix of selling “commitment issues” after she pulled up to the meat aisle of the Florida-based supermarket, only to find a laughable portion of ground chuck for sale. While she was initially shocked, viewers quickly made her see the benefit after they defended the “appetizer”-sized meat.
In a viral clip, Publix shopper Ali (@alikeyz) films a 0.45-pound piece of ground chuck on the meat rack for $3.15. In the on-screen text, she writes, “POV: Publix low-key running an appetizer menu in the meat aisle.”
She continues, “Publix out here selling commitment issues.” Ali asks viewers in the caption whether they would buy this piece of meat. And the answer was a resounding yes.
Why Was This Half-Pound Of Meat For Sale?
“Honestly, this size/amount would be great for someone who’s just cooking for themself. Like, why do I need to buy enough for like 4 people when I’m only cooking for me, myself, and I lol?!” one user wrote. “Back when I was cooking for just myself, sometimes food goes bad before I got a chance to eat it because they don’t have one person sized portions for anything.”
Ali replied that she was sad she didn’t come across this option during her “single days.” “Millennial me was low key excited!! And same I disliked cooking but it was just me I either had to eat it for days or it goes to waste!” she wrote. “Someone in the comments said Publix can break up packages for you so def excited!”
Indeed, several commenters pointed out how Publix breaks up the meat packages upon request.
Does Publix Break Up Meat Packages?
“My biggest life hack is to ask them to break the packages into exactly the amount that i need, saves so much money,” one said. A second user echoed, “Publix will always spilt packages if you ask!! someone probably split it and the repackaged what they didn’t need.”
A viewer who identified themselves as a worker for the store chain shared their perspective. “As a Publix cashier, our location has a lot of retirees and widow/widowers. They do buy these a lot,” they wrote.
The viewer continued, “They don’t need 4 Pattie’s or a pound of meat. They appreciate this package.”
Southern Living states that breaking up the packages is one of the “tricks” Publix does for its customers. According to the article, you can “easily ask someone in the meat department to give you half a package or a specific amount like half a pound of any Publix-branded meat you want, and they will happily measure it and package it for you.”
Southern Living also wrote how the supermarket extends this service to its rotisserie chicken. Additionally, other “tricks” that Publix does include cutting your whole fruit to your liking and slicing your bread the way you want it.
@alikeyz Would you buy this or nah? Publix really put this on the shelf like it’s fine lol #Publix #foodtiktok #grocerytok
