Pop star and actress Selena Gomez had an unfortunate slip of the tongue while giving a speech at her recent Rare Impact Fund Benefit, the second year in which her cosmetic brand has hosted the event.
While speaking at the event, which was held on Thursday, October 24, Selena Gomez was shouting out numerous charities, including the Didi (pronounced “dee-dee”) Hirsch Mental Health Services (DHMS).
Founded and owned by Gomez, Rare Beauty was launched in 2020 and has a current valuation of over $2 billion.
“They are committed to youth mental health, from suicide prevention training in schools to their drop-in center here in LA, and their Teen Line lifeline. I am very honored to be working with such incredible change-makers,” Gomez said of the organization, which helps prevent suicide among the youth.
As she was introducing the charity’s executive director, Gomez accidentally pronounced the charity like “Diddy,” prompting laughter from the audience. Gomez apologized for the slip-up, saying “I really am sorry.”

On September 16, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested in a New York City hotel by Homeland Security agents on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
Following his arrest, Diddy was taken before a judge, pled not guilty, and denied bail. He was then taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he will remain until his trial begins in May 2025.
“Combs relied on the employees, resources, and influence of the multifaceted business empire that he led and controlled, creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice,” federal authorities following Diddy’s arrest in September.
Since being arrested by federal agents, a litany of allegations and lawsuits alleging sexual assault and other crimes have been filed against the disgraced rapper and producer.
