Sharks Pulled From Water In Fire Island, New York After Two Attacks On Children

In the wake of two beachgoers getting bitten two separate shark attacks at two Fire Island, New York beaches Wednesday, two large sharks were pulled from the waters of the Atlantic Ocean barrier island, one measuring eight feet in length.

Yesterday, a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were attacked within minutes of each other about 4½ miles apart around 11:30 a.m., the New York Post reports.  Responders are analyzing a tooth that was lodged in the boys leg from the attack to determine the species of the shark.

Although it’s unclear whether the shark in the video below was involved in one of the attacks on the two children, but the 17-second footage shows two lifeguards dragging an angry 4-foot shark out of the surf and onto Atlantique Beach. The video features the smaller of the two sharks pulled from the water on Fire Island Thursday morning, the other being an 8-foot beast.

As CBS reports, marine life experts claim cleaner ocean waters in New York are making conditions attractive for the sea life sharks like to eat, drawing them to areas closer to the shoreline.

I think I’ll stick to the pool, thanks.
