This past weekend I was sitting with my friends at a bar talking about how our bodies are incapable of handling the effects of weed edibles without having self-reflective panic attacks. One of my buddies mentioned that he’s been exploring a legal substance called CBD, which is one of the 113 active cannabinoids identified in weed. It’s apparently really mild and has been used to impact disordered thinking and anxiety. We must’ve talked about it for 30 minutes. And on the way home from the bar, literally two hours later, I received this email:

Never once have I heard of this substance before my friend mentioned it that night, never mind researched it. For the rest of the night I felt like I was Jim Carrey in The Truman Show. I was convinced that I was the subject of some Big Brother shit. And I was freaked out. Didn’t even whack it before bed in fear some higher power was watching me.
Now in all likelihood it was just coincidental, but the mere fact that I gave plausibility to the possibility that someone or something was listening to our conversation and target-marketing me is indicative of where technology is going.
Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani has been granted unrestricted access to the cutting-edge technology of the near future by way of his involvement with hit HBO show and recently went on a Twitter rant reinforcing my fears from that night.
