A Texas man visited Dunkin’ to grab donuts for his family, and he ended up paying a higher price than anticipated.

Josh Melton (@imjoshmelton) posts videos about his life on TikTok. In a video posted earlier in the week, he discusses what happened on his recent trip to Dunkin’. “This past weekend, I went to Dunkin’ to get some donuts for me, the kids, and the moms,” he says to start the video. “I want to show you something on this receipt. Something really strange happened, and I’m still trying to figure out how this could’ve happened.”

What Happened To This Texas Man At Dunkin’?

When Melton arrived at Dunkin’, he drove up to the drive-thru window and ordered three donuts, a 25-pack of assorted Munchkins, a kolache, and a medium coffee. “They say it’s like $25.80,” he recalls. “I’m like, ‘All right.’ I go up to the window. I pay $25.80.” The price does seem high to him, but he thinks, “Whatever.”

That is, until he takes a second look at his receipt. “And I notice something that’s kind of strange,” he says. “What is this right here? Charged tips? $5.16 for charged tips? I didn’t tip anyone anything. Why was I charged that?”

Melton shows viewers his receipt, which backs up his story. “So I called them out on it,” he says. “And to be fair, they made it right. They gave me $5.16 in cash. But how many people this could’ve happened to—I have no idea. It totally baffled me, and they seemed like they had no idea how this could’ve possibly happened. What do you guys think?”

Viewers React To The Dunkin’ ‘Charged Tips’ Charge

In the comments, viewers expressed outrage on Melton’s behalf. Many said they would complain to management.

“When they ask ‘Do you want your receipt?’ Always yes,” wrote one viewer.

“Twenty five percent tip at drive thru,” wrote a second person. “Should be ZERO.”

“Only one person in 100 would notice and they rectified ONLY because you called it out,” wrote a third person.

This isn’t the first time Dunkin’ is facing complaints about unexpected charges. A New Jersey woman went viral in August after taking a photo of a 3% “employee retention” charge on her receipt. A woman traveling through LaGuardia Airport the same month said she was also charged the fee.

BroBible contacted Melton via TikTok comment and direct message and Dunkin’ via email for comment.
