Two of the top casting choices for the upcoming sequel to The Social Network have been revealed. According to reports, Academy Award winner Mikey Madison and The Bear star Jeremy Allen White are the leading candidates.
Development of a sequel to The Social Network, the 2010 David Fincher film that many consider to be among the best of the century, was reported on earlier this year.
Unlike the original The Social Network, however, in addition to writing the script, Sorkin will also be directing, which is an aspect that has given some fans cause to pause given his track record in the director’s chair so far (no matter what you thinking of his filmmaking, he’s simply no David Fincher, either).
In The Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg starred as Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He will not be reprising his role, however, with reports indicating Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee Jeremy Strong is the top choice to play the controversial tech billionaire.
Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White reportedly the top casting choices for The Social Network sequel
“Sources say that Sorkin’s top choices to star in The Social Network Part II are Oscar winner Mikey Madison and Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White. Insiders stress that no formal offers have been given to either actor, but it’s clear these are his picks to star in the film once those hurdles are overcome.”
“Sorkin’s original screenplay for the new movie explores the story behind the Wall Street Journal‘s The Facebook Files by Jeff Horowitz, an explosive series of articles published in October 2021 that exposed the inner workings of — and multiple harms caused by — Facebook. Ideally, White would play Horowitz and Madison would play Frances Haugen the whistleblower behind the series of articles.” [via Deadline]
Early reports indicate that The Social Network sequel will focus on the 2020 election and Facebook’s effect on teens, preteens, violence and countries outside the U.S.
Jeremy Allen White is on the verge of the biggest role of his career as he’ll be starring as the legendary Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere this fall, while the Oscar-winning Madison — who reportedly turned down a role in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film alongside Ryan Gosling — is currently only attached to The Masque of the Red Death.
