Comedian and podcaster Theo Von has clarified his position on immigration after calling out the Department of Homeland Security for using a clip of him in one of their social media videos. Von’s comments came on the latest episode of his This Past Weekend podcast.
In the video, the 45-year-old Theo Von — who was in attendance at Donald Trump’s inauguration in January — is shown saying “Heard you got deported, dude,” as he nods his head in disappointment. The video then ends with Von saying “Bye!” as it cuts to a montage of feds detaining people and a list of unverified statistics, such as the claim that 2 million people have been deported in 250 days.
After catching wind of the DHS’ tweet, Von posted on his social media asking them to take it down, which they eventually did. Von also subsequently deleted his tweet that called them out.
“Yooo DHS i didnt approve to be used in this. I know you know my address so send a check. And please take this down and please keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos. When it comes to immigration my thoughts and heart are alot more nuanced than this video allows. Bye!” Von tweeted.

On the latest episode of his podcast, Von — coming off a reported Netflix special taping in New York City in which he bombed and appeared to be behaving erratically (which he also addressed in the episode), Von expanded on his thoughts and feelings on immigration.
As Von tells it, he has personal investment in the country’s immigration process, as his father immigrated her from Nicaragua.
“My father immigrated here from Nicaragua. One of my prized possessions is…his immigration papers from when he came here — I have them in a frame, him and his siblings when he came here… This was just f—– up. It was f—– up,” Vonn says in the clip, explaining that the situation made him “paranoid.”

Back in June, Von shared further thoughts on the current immigration issues when asked by a caller for his thoughts on the situation.
Vonn called the immigration system “broken” and said “there needs to be a way to create a path for citizenship for people who are productive,” adding that “It’s sick when you see like children crying and people being taken from their parents — It’s heartbreaking.”
As for his concerning performance in New York City over the weekend, Von partially attributed his behavior to coming off of anti-depressant medication.
“I just kind of self-weaned myself off. And the reason why was because I wanted, like, during the comedy show, I wanted to have a little bit more emotion during it,” he explained.
“I just wanted to have some more feelings. … If you ever take antidepressants, or if you haven’t, they kind of take away your feelings, so you just kind of stay in this space where you’re OK. And it’s nice, it’s a safe space, but… you’re like the astronaut that kind of stays on the ship sometimes.”
At this time, Von — who is one of the few A-list comedians not taking part in the controversial Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia — has no live stand-up dates scheduled.
