Even though Saquon Barkley has only been in the National Football League for just one season, fans and analysts alike think the New York Giants star running back has future Hall of Famer written all over him.
While Barkley has only been in the NFL for a single season, that season was a historic one, as he set multiple New York Giants and NFL records, such as:
– Most receptions by a rookie running back.
– One of three rookies with 2,000 or more scrimmage yards.
– Most games with 100+ scrimmage yard by a rookie.
– First rookie since 1980 with at least 1,200 rushing yards and 600 receiving yards.
Not too shabby, huh? And we didn’t even mention the countless New York Giants franchise records that he smashed, such as most rushing yards, most rushing touchdowns, and most receptions by a rookie.
However, if Barkley wants to be the Hall of Famer we all know he can be, he’s going to need to dominate for more than just one season. And that’s exactly what NFL legend Tom Brady told him at this year’s Met Gala, which was advice that Saquon said had him “ready to run through a break wall.”
“It’s great to do it for one season, but can you do it for five? Can you do it for 10?” Barkley remembers Brady saying to him. “I’m standing there at the Met Gala ready to run through a brick wall.” [NJ.com]
If anyone is in the position to tell Barkley about what it takes to become an all-time great, it’s Tom Brady, who — at 42-years-young — is still dominating the NFL the way he did a decade ago.
