When you grab a 1-pound pack of bacon at Walmart, you expect it to actually weigh… 1 pound.

But that wasn’t the case for one Florida shopper who decided to check. She put the unopened package on a scale, and the number shown shocked her.

“Walmart really is ripping customers off!” she wrote in the on-screen text of the now-viral video, which has over 859,900 views.

As she filmed the scale, she pointed out the number on the display: 0.91 lb. She then spanned the camera to show the bacon: Great Value Hickory Smoked Bacon, with a printed net weight of 1 pound.

“And that’s with the packaging,” she says.

“When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I was told I had to take it up with Great Value,” she added in the caption. “He said he couldn’t do anything about it, and left the product on the shelf, knowing they were all under the posted weight. They are knowingly ripping customers off!”

Is This A One-Time Mistake?

Another Walmart customer recently had a similar experience after weighing a pork loin roast. The label said it was 5.04 pounds, but it came out to 4.53. That’s a half-pound less.

It’s also not the first time Walmart has gotten in legal trouble for issues like this. As some viewers pointed out in the comments, the company agreed to a $5.6 million settlement in California after multiple district attorneys filed a complaint alleging Walmart overcharged customers.

The lawsuit accused Walmart of misrepresenting prices and product weights across several categories, including meat, produce, and baked goods.

Commenters Are Fed Up

In the comments under the video, viewers expressed their frustration with Walmart’s pricing practices.

“Weights are approximate but strangely never over,” one person said.

Another wrote, “But remember, if you take anything from them it’s illegal.”

“Wait till you measure the ’10lb’ hamburger that weighs 8lb,” someone else warned.

And finally, one commenter kept it simple: “Stop shopping at Walmart. They have been ripping customers off for years.

Adding Insult To Injury

Groceries are already expensive—painfully so.

A recent spike of 0.6% in food prices from July to August marked the fastest month-over-month increase since October 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Families now report spending more than $200 a week on groceries alone. That might not sound earth-shattering until you realize the median weekly salary in the U.S. is $1,196. After rent, gas, utilities, and every other bill, there’s not much left to cover even basic meals.
