Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Remove The Block Function — Here’s Why They Can’t And Won’t

Elon Musk’s latest brilliant idea for the social media app formerly known as Twitter, according to the aspiring MMA fighter himself, is to get rid of the block function because it doesn’t “make sense.”

Like most of the decisions Musk has made with Twitter so far, though, it appears little planning or foresight went into it, as it turns out that such a move would result in the app being automatically taken down from Apple’s App Store.

As pointed out by The Daily Beast podcast host Andy Levy, one of the terms of use for Apple’s App Store is that “apps with user-generated content”, which is Twitter, must include:

1. “A method for filtering objectionable material from being posted on the app”
2. “A mechanism to report offensive content and timely response to concerns”
3. “The ability to block abusive users from the service”

Some Twitter users are theorizing that Elon’s on-a-whim decision came from him finding out how many people have him blocked, especially since the app seemingly began to push his content onto everyone’s feeds following his acquisition of the platform.

Since acquiring Twitter in late 2022, business analysts estimate that the platform has lost about a third of its value during that time.

More recently, Musk has taken up feuding with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and has been touting an eventual MMA fight against him in the Roman Coliseum. Italian officials with the Ministry of Culture’s Office, however, denied extending such an invitation.

Furthermore, Zuckerberg has also called out Musk’s commitment to participating in such a fight, saying that Musk “knows how to reach him” if he “ever gets serious about” it.

“I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on. I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” Zuckerberg wrote on Threads earlier this week.

“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”

In response to Zuckerberg’s comment, the 52-year-old Musk has reiterated he plans on showing up at Zuck’s house and has taken to making chicken jokes such as “[He] can’t eat at Chick-Fil-A because that would be cannibalism.”
