Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s charity is set to shut down, and the reason is largely due to Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.
According to tax filings, the high-profile couple’s charity, the Will And Jada Smith Family Foundation has seen such a loss of revenue since “The Slap” that it’s now going to shut down.
Before “The Slap”, the Will And Jada Smith Family Foundation had revenue of $2,138,600 in 2021, according to tax records. In 2022, however, that number dropped to $365,870 — an 83% decrease.
Furthermore, tax records show that the foundation donated to small and difficult-to-track-down organizations such as Rebecoming, whose listed address leads to an unmarked door between a pizza shop and a laundromat in New York City, per Variety.
The Will And Jada Smith Family Foundation gave $15,000 to Rebecoming.

“According to its website, Rebecoming is ‘dedicated to understanding and unlocking the healing potential of non-ordinary states of consciousness through clinical research into the mechanism-of-action behind trauma release.'”
“The organization’s site hasn’t been updated since 2020 and a contact notice sent by Variety went unanswered. Rebecoming Inc. has filed tax paperwork through 2022, but attempts to contact the organization by phone or via the listed addresses were unsuccessful.” [via Variety]
Another organization, World Rebirth Foundation Inc., hasn’t filed paperwork with the IRS since 2021, and has a phone number that leads to an organization called Platinum City Entertainment & Films.
“World Rebirth Foundation Inc. is an Oxnard, Calif.-based organization that is connected to a Beverly Hills P.O. Box. While the organization’s official website is not currently live, there is an official Facebook page that was last updated in July 2023.”
“A typo-filled mission statement on the Facebook page says the organization is ‘in the nutshell, Help those that are in-need, Teach life skills, and build job skills…’ Elsewhere, a focus on ‘gun violence, mental health and financial literacy’ is mentioned.”

Later this year, Smith — who won the Oscar for Best Actor the night he slapped Chris Rock — will be starring in his highest-profile project since the incident as he’ll be featuring alongside Martin Lawrence in the fourth Bad Boys film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
Smith has appeared in one project since the incident and that was 2022’s Emancipation, which was released on AppleTV+ to below-average reviews.
