Like I mentioned before, the show has now caught the books almost entirely (aside from a few Bran Stark stories). So anyone who has read the books (myself included) suspected that this soul crushing murder of Jon Snow might happen, it died, and both book reader and watchers of the show wanted to smash our TV’s and burn down our houses. Within seconds of Jon Snow being stabbed repeatedly by his Night’s Watch brothers in black my phone was exploding with group texts of people losing their shit over the death of Jon Snow. As far as we’re all concerned, he’s dead. No matter how many ‘spoilers’ you Google from here on out, Jon Snow is dead. There are however theories on how we may see Jon Snow on-screen once again. If you’re not interested in reading those theories then STOP READING THIS NOW. If you are interested, continue with your reading, you’ve already made it 3,800 words so why stop now?

There’s a clip in that link above from Game of Thrones Season 3, in it we see Beric Dondarrion being killed in combat by The Hound, but revived by Thoros of Myr, a red priest. Thoros of Myr serves the Lord of Light, and has the ability to bring people back from the dead. Watch the clip above so your memory is fresh, then come back here. It seems WAAAAYYYYYYYYYY too convenient that The Lady Melisandre abandoned Stannis and returned to Castle Black at just the right moment. She is a Red Priestess, and she serves the Lord of Light. It therefore stands to reason that Melisandre can and will bring our beloved Jon Snow back from the dead, right? Well, maybe not.

Kit Harrington (the actor who plays Jon Snow) gave an Interview in which he states he is NOT coming back. And if you’ve been pouring of Twitter and rumors after Jon Snow’s death I’m sure you’ve read by now that Jon Snow as not cast for Season 6. So he’s lost and gone forever, right?

Some people think that he’ll come back as Ghost, his direwolf. That as a warg he’ll inhabit the body of his direwolf and his soul and consciousness will live out the rest of his days in Ghost. That theory is bullshit, and it’s definitely not happening. First off HBE hasn’t touched the whole ‘warg plotline’ of Jon Snow in many seasons, so it’d make no sense for them to spring it back on us out of nowhere. What is more likely is that we don’t see Jon Snow next season because both HBO and George RR Martin’s writing squad will be focusing on Bran Stark who is waaaayyyyy North of The Wall, and we didn’t see Bran at all this season. Then we see Jon Snow recast in Season 7 after some shit goes down with the cripple stark who was told by the three-eyed raven that he’d never walk again but that “he’d fly” (methinks he’ll ride a dragon one day).

I simply REFUSE to believe with the Lady Melisandre at Castle Black who is capable or reviving the dead that we have seen the last of Jon Snow, but we very well might have, as the most recent book ended the same way Season 5 faded to black. Jon Snow’s one of the seemingly most important characters in Game of Thrones. He’s always had the air of someone whose importance hasn’t fully been revealed yet, and I still think of him that way, even if he’s deader than dead has ever deaded. Dude’s ice cold, and it hurts. Where the hell was Ghost to save him?

Nobody EVER dies when their direwolf is around, and the same would’ve been true for Jon Snow if he just kept his direwolf by his side. He didn’t and now we’re all angry and he’s dead. It really, really, genuinely hurt to watch that scene. I almost had to go outside for a walk to let off some steam after this:

But here we are, Jon Snow’s our biggest loser of the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale ‘Mother’s Mercy’. Though we the fans are probably the penultimate losers, because all of our favorite characters each took serious blows throughout the episode.

Without question Season 5 was the strongest Game of Thrones season to date. I had a lot of fun writing the ‘Winners and Losers’ Game of Thrones recaps for you bros, and I plan on doing them again next year (as I do every year). If I skimmed over anything that you think was important, or botched any major details, feel free to blast me down below in the comments. And for recaps of past Game of Thrones episodes you can follow that link. Going into next Game of Thrones Season 6 it’ll be a complete free-for-all, with book readers and tv watchers being on a completely level playing field. Everything from this day forward will be a surprise, and I cannot wait! Hopefully HBO will once again be so kind as to send me screeners for the first 4 episodes so that I can bring you bros the recaps immediately, but if not, such is life.
