Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels Spoke Out On Rumors Jalen Carter Is Off The Board

Jalen Carter is one of the most talented draft prospects in the entire nation. The former Georgia Bulldog defensive tackle has dominated opposing offensive linemen for years.

And, he’s helped Georgia win a lot of games, too. The Bulldogs have gone a remarkable 29-1 the last two years and have captured two last two national titles. And, Jalen Carter has been a big part of that.

After the season, he was a lock for the top five, top ten at worst if a run on quarterbacks occurred early on. But, some off-the-field issues have gotten in the way.

Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy died in a car accident just hours after the team celebrated their national championship with fans in mid-January.

Then on March 1, Carter was charged in connection with the incident, as he was allegedly street-racing with that LeCroy was driving and Willock was driving in, and then left the scene.

The legal issues have largely resolved, for carter, but NFL teams are still skeptical about him, and a report on Thursday afternoon had the Las Vegas Raiders out on Carter completely.

But, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels spoke out and said that was not true. Here are more details, courtesy of Pro Football Talk.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels spoke to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday night, and McDaniels reiterated what he told reporters about the Georgia defensive lineman on Monday.

The Raiders continue to do their due diligence, and Carter remains on their draft board.

Carter will visit the Raiders as one of their 30 visitors in April, per Bonsignore.

So, it sounds like those reports were untrue. I understand why the Raiders would be reluctant to draft someone with red flags after former first-round pick Henry Ruggs killed someone while driving over twice the speed limit under the influence of alcohol.

Someone is going to take a chance on Jalen Carter, and if he can stay out of trouble, they will get a heck of a football player.
