If you were to stop me on the street and ask me to name a place on earth that makes me genuinely happy just to be there, I’d say there’s a 1-in-4 chance my answer is ‘the cenotes’. Other locations would be the Adirondack Mountains, Florida Everglades, or Portugal.
The cenotes in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula are these sinkhole water holes in the middle of the jungle that are all connected by hundreds of miles of underwater caves and tunnels. Archaeologists are constantly finding ancient artifacts down in these breathtakingly gorgeous cenotes that are filled with exotic freshwater fish.
The ancient Mayans would offer gifts to the crystalline waters of the Yucatan cenotes, a scene that is depicted on the new Espolon Cristalino Tequila bottle. This new sipping tequila from Espolon, the Espolon Cristalino, was inspired by the water of the cenotes and when I learned that I knew I was hooked before I even got my hands on a bottle.

‘Sipping tequila’ can be a bit of a misnomer. While Espolon would encourage you to sip this tequila responsibly, I would encourage you to drink the new Espolon Cristalino Tequila in whatever manner you most enjoy tequila.
If you enjoy using top-shelf tequila to make margaritas then you do exactly what makes you happy, and make sure you reach for a bottle of Espolon Cristalino for your next one. It has a suggested retail price of $59.99 for a 750mL.
While I enjoy sipping tequila as much as anyone, I found that mixing Espolon Cristalino with a little Ancho Reyes, fresh squeezed lime, and a splash of orange juice (shaken in ice) made for the most refreshing drink I’ve had in months.

Espolon seems very excited about the launch of Cristalino which should tell us/you a lot. If they believe they’ve bottled a winner then there’s reason to believe them, right? Sean Yelle of Campari Group USA said “Espolòn’s Cristalino is a testament to our late founder, Maestro Cirilo, who has proven that a truly authentic tequila experience is achievable only through time and passion. A project years in the making, our Cristalino was created using both traditional and modern techniques, resulting in a one-of-a-kind liquid that celebrates Espolòn’s rich heritage and Cirilo’s trailblazing spirit.”
