Grunt Style/American Grit
Marines are badasses. That much is typically true. They get cool uniforms, shirts, insignias, mottos, and catchphrases. I’ve never served in the military, so I base just about everything I know about them from movies and TV shows. That brings up a good question: who are the best on-screen Marines? Grunt Style and American Grit took the time to pick their favorites, so here are my favorite picks from their list:
Ed Harris as General Francis Hummel in The Rock (1996): How he only made honorable mention on this list is beyond me. This is one of my favorite action movies of all time in large part thanks to Harris’ Hummel. One of the best movie villains of all time and he ends up not being the villain.
The Punisher: There are a few versions to choose from, and I know Jon Bernthal’s been killing it on the Netflix show, but I prefer Thomas Jane in the 2004 movie. Super underrated performance AND he gets to beat up Kevin Nash in a weird striped shirt. That’s *wrestling hand gesture* too sweet.
Jack Ryan: Even more options to choose from: Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck in a very forgettable flick. Easy pick is the most recent adaptation: John Krasinski. Turns out all takes is a solid beard and a few extra pounds of muscle to make everyone forget about The Office. By the way, Jim and Pam are the worst. Fight me on it.
Damon Wayans, Sr. as Major Payne (1995): This might be the second time that American Grit has highlighted this movie. Frankly, I don’t blame them.
