If you’re not familiar with Illinois Senator-elect Tammy Duckworth, do yourself a favor and read up on her before she takes office. She’s easily one of the biggest badasses in the incoming Senatorial class. In 2004, Duckworth was deployed to Iraq to fly helicopters in combat. She lost both her legs when the Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
She received the Purple Heart afterwards and dedicated her life to public service. Her story is truly an incredible one.
Today I'm honoring #Veterans like my buddies who refused 2leave me behind—every day &especially today I think about what I can do2repay them
