Betting is not an exact science, otherwise, all bettors would be rich. If you’re betting responsibly, the reward is the adrenaline rush of watching something win and lose and feeling like you have some skin in the game.
Of course, that means that sometimes bettors barely win and are elated. And sometimes, they barely lose, suffering what is called “bad beats.”
This week’s Monday Night Football game between the Packers and Rams did not have much in terms of playoff implications. That is a sentence that would’ve been laughable during the preseason, as they were two of the Super Bowl favorites. But, betting never stops, and surely bettors flocked to the game.
Green Bay were 7.5 point favorites against the Baker Mayfield-led Los Angeles Rams, another sentence that would’ve made no sense a few months ago. And, the total point line was 40.5.
The Packers have actually been playing better of late, and when Aaron Jones scored this third-quarter touchdown to put Green Bay up 24-6, the spread was done and dusted.

But, the total was still very much in play. At that point, the total points scored was 30, with seventeen minutes left to play.
And, when Rams tight end Tyler Higbee scored at the end of the third quarter to bring the total to 36, it seemed like a good bet it would hit the over in the fourth quarter.

Green Bay took a knee at the one-yard line, infuriating over bettors
Los Angeles got down to the Packers’ 41-yard line midway through the fourth quarter. But, the drive went backwards and they were forced to punt.
Green Bay went on a massive drive, and they had 3rd and 2 from the Ram four-yard-line at the two-minute warning. Over bettors had to feel good about it hitting. Instead, tragedy happened for them.
The Packers picked up the first down via an Aaron Jones run. But, instead of going in to score another touchdown that would have clinched the over, they kneed it three times to run out the clock. That had to be infuriating for over-bettors.
