While New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers pretended he might be healthy enough to return to the playing field last season, the reality is that he’s being held out of practices due to rainy conditions with just a month to go until the NFL season.
Due to rainy conditions in New Jersey on Thursday, August 8, the Jets staff decided to hold 40-year-old future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers out of practice as a precaution.
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that Rodgers wasn’t thrilled about being sidelined due to a little water.
“I just didn’t want to expose him to it,” Saleh told the media after practice. “If it was a game, if it was a [regular] practice, if it was clean outside, he would’ve practiced today. Call it overprotection, but it’s just the decision I made.”
“He pushed back, he pushed back. He wanted to go, but in the grand scheme of things, we’re trying to keep forward-thinking with regard to Week 1.”
Saleh’s decision is certain to raise alarms among Jets fans as Rodgers is now 11 months removed from his Achilles injury and his head coach still has doubts about its ability to hold up after being surgically repaired).
The Jets are set to kick off their 2024 season exactly one month from today as they’ll be taking on the San Francisco 49ers in the first Monday Night Football game of the season on September 9.
When Rodgers is on the practice field, all reports indicate that he and star wide receiver Garrett Wilson have been on fire, with Washington Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes getting particularly torched during a joint practice session.

If Rodgers’ Achilles can hold up and he stars for the Jets for the entire season, then Gang Green should have a decent chance of breaking their 13-year-long playoff drought, which is the longest in American professional sports.
