Alabama is not interested in hosted slap fighting events like Power Slap in their state. In 2022, Alabama’s Athletic Commission voted to prohibit slap fighting in the state after it was sanctioned in Nevada.

“Essentially, you stand there and get slapped as hard as you can,” said John Parris, executive director of the Alabama Athletic Commission. “You’re not allowed to move. So it’s just a head injury waiting to happen with no gear or anything.”

Alabama Senator Gerald Allen has filed a bill that would put the Alabama Athletic Commission’s ban on slap fighting into state law after seeing online clips.

“It caught my attention and I said we don’t need this,” Allen said. “And we need to police this thing as best as we can and to prohibit those events in Alabama.”

Dana White was asked about Alabama’s attempt to ban slap-fighting during Power Slap’s most recent event in New Orleans.

“It’s not like we haven’t been through this before, and we need to get in there and educate them on the sport, and how it all works. Once we get in there and talk to people. There will never be anything harder than when we did the UFC. Getting the UFC out there. So, I look forward to it.”
