The Women’s World Cup is less than a month away. The quadrennial tournament will be 32 teams for the first time this year, and will be held in Australia and New Zealand this time around. While there are sure to be many breakout stars of the event, one that seems like a sure thing is Swiss forward Alisha Lehmann.
In the USA, we have female athletes that have parlayed their athleticism and good looks into huge social media followings. But, basically none of them rival Alisha Lehmann in terms of reach. She has an incredible 13.8 million Instagram followers. Compare that to LSU gymnast and social media sensation Olivia Dunne’s 4.2 million, and you get a sense of just how big she is.
She’s a pretty great soccer player too. She has seven career goals for a Swiss national team that has ambitions of breaking through in a big way at the Women’s World Cup. Alisha Lehmann plays for Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League in England, one of the best leagues in the world.
