Amazon Prime is televising Thursday Night Football NFL games for the first time this year. And, their broadcasts have been well-received so far. Their Prime Vision feature allows you to watch the all-22 angle with real-time advanced stats.
But, they ran into quite the problem in their Week 3 broadcast involving the Dolphins and the Bengals. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered what looked to be a head injury in last week’s game, was hit hard in the 2nd quarter of Thursday’ game and what happened next was hard to watch.
Amazon Prime continued to show replays of the hit
Here is the hit.
This is a disaster. Pray for Tua. Fire the medical staffs and coaches. I predicted this and I hate that I am right. Two concussions in 5 days can kill someone. This can end careers. How are we so stupid in 2022. pic.twitter.com/D8S8eEbgda

That does not look good for Tua. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was reported to be able to move all extremities.
But, Amazon kept showing the hit over and over again, including a shot of Tua’s hands seemingly frozen after he hit the ground. People were not happy.
People are ticked off over the number of replays of the hit
Instantly, people took to Twitter to tell Prime to stop showing replays of the hit.
The discussion from Michaels and Herbstreit has been OK and credit to them for quoting a doctor rather than speculating. But Amazon needs to answer for the decision to show the replay so many times. Felt gratuitous and invasive and unnecessary.

Tua didn’t need to play on Thursday.
Amazon didn’t need to zoom in and replay it in slow motion.
Just an amazing amount of insensitivity from so many people.

While Miami’s handling of Tua’s injury from last week will deservedly be scrutinized after the game, media columnists should also scrutinize Amazon’s egregious showings of this replay tonight.

So, people are obviously mad. But, this is one of the reasons we watch football. You cannot tell me otherwise. Americans love gore and violence. Look at our favorite movies. Right now, one of the biggest television shows in the world is about Jeffrey Dahmer, a real-life cannibal who killed people and ate them. And people can’t shut up about it! We wish we could look away, but we cannot.
